Spend
your days surrounded by nature at Villas Ecotucan Ecological Resort located
on the shores of the beautiful Laguna Bacalar, one of Mexico’s largest
freshwater lakes. Stay in one of five comfortable and spacious stone cabins
with thatch roofs, surrounded by tropical gardens and reminiscent of a
Mayan settlement offering guests a tranquil base for relaxing with nature.
Swim or kayak the magnificent lagoon, explore the many nearby ruins,
hike or bike jungle trails, or just enjoy our scenic beauty, birds, and
wildlife. At the end of the day, fall asleep to the comforting hum of
the surrounding jungle.
During the day spend your time just sitting and looking at the lake.
Or, enjoy walking through our jungle trails, watching birds, or playing
with some of the leisure equipment we provide, which includes bocci, badminton,
croquet, and volleyball.
A
short walk down the hill takes you to the magical Laguna de Bacalar, perfect
for swimming or kayaking or just simply admiring. Also known as the Lagoon
of Seven Colors, its bright shades of blue are breathtaking. Our hotel
offers a dock (guests have free use of kayaks) as well as rest area down
by the water. Boat tours can be arranged and this is an ideal place for
photography buffs, both professional and amateur.
Tour the extensive gardens of native species, walk on the many jungle
trails, or rent one of our mountain bikes for a jungle adventure you won't
forget.
Watch
birds. More than 200 species of birds have been identified at Villas Ecotucan.
While sipping morning coffee under the palapa roof, our guests have seen
Keel-billed Toucans, White-fronted Parrots, White-bellied Emerald and
Cinnamon and Wedge-tailed Sabrewing hummingbirds, as well as Blue and
Painted Buntings. Up to five species of Orioles have been seen together
in the morning in the flowering Cecropia Tree beside the dining-room.
Many guests report hearing the calls of the Mottled Owl and the Ferruginous
Pygmy-Owl. And the raucous calls of Yucatan or Brown Jays or Chachalacas
are heard most every morning by early-rising guests.
