Gaia Restaurant, Spa, and Artist Showcase is just ½ block south of the square on 3rd Avenue and one block from the lake. Gaia Showcase lets visitors see international, national, and regional artists and artisans. Performing arts include dance and music; plastic arts include sculpture, ceramics, painting, weaving, and more; workshops include yoga, cooking, and health improvement. Danzón - Dancing with Heart, that's the slogan of the Eduardo Romero New Generation of Dance ensemble. Two groups of young people -- one age 5 and up and the other age 15 and up -- sustain a culture of dance in Bacalar with lessons and two live performances each month. Want to learn more? Have you ever wondered what the life of a pirate was like, or wanted to learn about the lives of the Mayans before Europeans came to the New World? Visit the Fort of San Felipe, on the town square, to find out. Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. Closed Mondays. Joseas Moltalvo Yama, director of the museum and an accomplished artist, also offers a variety of art classes at the Fort. Check it out !

Bacalar's Cultural Center is located on 5th Avenue at the corner of 26th Street and is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm. The Culture Center, in a spacious hacienda-style setting, provides a variety of classes and courses of instruction, including dance, folklore, singing, poetry, writing, theatre and painting. A History of Bacalar project records in paintings the town's rich past, and story-reading and other activities are offered to youngsters.
